Creating a Guardianship Plan

A family mediator is an individual that is specifically trained to help people in their journey as co-parents to successfully resolve their disputes.  The mediator is a neutral third-party that facilitates the meeting and works to ensure everyone is treated fairly and has the opportunity to voice their concerns. There are many pieces in a parenting plan and mediation provides the space to discuss all of those pieces and craft a plan for the future.

The length of mediation is often determined by the number of factors to consider, the complexity of the dispute, and the ability of the parties to negotiate and work together.  A mediation can take anywhere from one to several hours and/or meetings depending on the issues at hand.  It is not unheard of for a mediation process to take a course of a few weeks if the situation calls for it.   

Using a mediator can allow parties to come to an agreement entirely on their own and without the involvement of the court system.  Litigation is not just about financial implications, there are emotional considerations to make as well.  Sun River Mediation charges an hourly rate of $140 with a one hour minimum, split by the parties.

Both parties will have the opportunity assert more control over the outcome of their parenting plan than they would if their case was to be adjudicated.  You do not have to agree to terms that seem unfair to you. Negotiations and compromises can be made between parties when considering their children and parenting plan.  The business of co-parenting can be for many years to come and because people and life are dynamic, the parenting plan that worked at the time of separation may need to be adjusted along the way.
